Divya Senthil

CAG

With over 7 years of experience in the environmental services and renewable energy domain, Divya’s career choices have been motivated by the need to make an impact in the sustainability sector. Graduating as a Chemical Engineer from Anna University, she spent a couple of years in a techno-commercial role in a company that designed, constructed and operated water treatment plants. Post this, she pursued a Master’s in Renewable Energy Engineering and Management from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany, and Instituto Superior Tecnico, Portugal. After moving back to India, she worked on a few short-term projects in the electric mobility space, involving battery swapping technology and as a project manager in implementing a small-scale off-grid wind turbine system to power a remote village in Hosur. She also spent a few years working in the strategy and commercial operations team for a company that developed digital solutions for power forecasting and preventive maintenance, specifically for wind and solar plants. When not at work, she dedicates her time to pottery and loves spending time at the beach with her family. She strongly believes in adapting nature-based solutions and creating a circular economy-based production and consumption model to address several of our climate change-related challenges.

Understanding environmental attitudes among college students in Tamil Nadu

Delving into the environmental attitudes of college students in Tamil Nadu, our study reveals that students have a fondness for nature, a commitment to conservation, but show neutrality on key issues such as eco centric concern. Additionally, we convened a workshop involving academicians, researchers, environmentalists, and journalists to revisit the existing UGC environmental studies curriculum. The outcome report and model syllabus from this workshop serves as an addendum to the main report.

Road Safety - Look for ISI helmets

Author

If you're unsure about which helmet brand to choose, any brand will suffice as long as it carries the ISI mark to guarantee your child's safety. Even if a helmet manufactured abroad has a stricter criteria than is allowed by Indian regulations, if it doesn't have an ISI mark, it is not permissible for sale in India.

Sustainable Transport - Increase public transportation

Author

To decrease the number of cars on roads, enhancing public transport and promoting sustainable methods of travel (cycling and walking) must be the top priorities. Countries like Singapore use a 'carrot and stick' approach with car ownership made financially burdensome by imposing high costs for purchasing and maintaining vehicles, expensive fees for parking, taxes, and road tolls. Only a combination of these is likely to work.
