தமிழ்நாடு மாசு கட்டுப்பாடு வாரியம், நீர் (மாசுத் தடுப்பு மற்றும் கட்டுப்பாடு) சட்டம் 1974- ன்படி, 27 பிப்ரவரி 1982- இல் உருவாக்கப்பட்டது. இவ்வாரியம், பிற சுற்றுச்சூழல் பாதுகாப்பு சட்டங்களான காற்று (மாசுத் தடுப்பு மற்றும் கட்டுப்பாடு) சட்டம் 1981 மற்றும் சுற்றுச்சூழல் (பாதுகாப்பு) சட்டம் 1986 ஆகியவற்றையும், அச்சட்டங்களின் கீழ் உள்ள விதிகளையும் நடைமுறைப்படுத்துகிறது.
